History
From a hot pot restaurant to the world
In 1986, the Ju Percussion Group met at a hot pot restaurant in Taipei and announced to the world that Taiwan's very first professional percussion band had been born. Most people in Taiwan were then unfamiliar with the genre; thanks to the group's activities, JPG soon became a household name throughout the island.
Apart from its concert performances, another feature of the group is its composition of original musical pieces. JPG is one of the few ensembles with its own exclusive composers, and has commissioned as many as 286 works, investing massive resources in domestic and overseas creation.
The group has been invited to international events including Quartier d'Été in Paris, the Budapest Spring Festival, the 2005 World Exposition in Japan and the Chekhov International Theatre Festival in Moscow, and has performed in Washington D.C. and across China.
Since 2013 JPG has been chosen as a Taiwan Brand Performing Arts Group. Its 2014 European tour reached Linz, Vienna, Germany and Hungary, including a first performance at the Wiener Konzerthaus.
